Document one process in one hour

Create a useful SOP without turning your business into bureaucracy.

Most process documentation fails because it is attempted at the wrong scale. You do not need a manual. You need one page for the one thing that breaks most often.

The one-hour method

  1. Pick the process that has gone wrong twice in the last month.
  2. Do it once, normally, while recording your screen or narrating a voice note as you go.
  3. Write the steps from the recording — not from memory. Memory skips the steps you do automatically, and those are exactly the ones a new person gets wrong.
  4. Add the three failure points and what to do at each.
  5. Have someone else follow it once without your help. Fix whatever confused them. Stop there.

Store it somewhere the team already looks — a pinned WhatsApp message, a shared doc, a printed sheet on the wall. The best documentation is the one nearest to the work.
